Norfolk Learning Disability Nurse Anca Manea Receives Prestigious Queen's Nurse Award

Anca Manea, a dedicated Learning Disability (LD) nurse with the Norfolk LD Service, has recently been honoured with the prestigious title of Queen's Nurse. This distinguished award, given by The Queen’s Nursing Institute, recognises exceptional nurses who demonstrate outstanding levels of practice, commitment to patient care, research, and innovation. Anca is the first LD nurse in the Norfolk LD Service to receive this recognition, marking a significant milestone in the region's healthcare community.

Being named a Queen's Nurse is a testament to Anca's unwavering dedication to providing high-quality care to her patients. "Becoming a Queen's Nurse means a lot to me personally, as it's recognising the level of care I am providing to my patients," Anca shared. "Professionally, I will continue with my commitment to patient care and quality improvement."

Anca's achievement not only highlights her individual excellence but also underscores the critical work being done within the Norfolk LD Service. "It is an amazing honour to be the first LD Nurse in the Norfolk LD Service receiving this recognition. It showcases the importance of the work we are completing for our vulnerable patients, as LD nurses, on par with other nursing fields," Anca said. "I hope this recognition will inspire other LD nurses to consider becoming Queen's Nurses."

Anca's career has been marked by a passion for addressing inequalities within the LD population, and she views her new title as an opportunity to further her impact in this area. "Having the possibility of linking with other Queen's Nurses within the country will contribute towards developing my skills, so I can become the leader I would like to be in the LD field," Anca explained. "I am very passionate about tackling inequalities within the LD population and I am hoping to make significant contributions towards this during my career."

Anca's recent presentation at an international conference in Chicago further exemplifies her commitment to the field. She presented her groundbreaking project on the sustainability of the Norfolk Antenatal Pathway for Women and Birthing People with Learning Disabilities, showcasing innovative approaches to ensuring equitable healthcare for all.

Anca is eager to see more nurses follow in her footsteps and apply to become Queen's Nurses. "Absolutely!" she said when asked if she would recommend others to pursue the title. The Queen's Nursing Institute offers valuable resources and guidance on the application process, which Anca encourages other nurses to explore.

Carolyn Fowler, Director of Nursing and Quality, praised Anca's achievement, stating, "Anca Manea's recognition as a Queen's Nurse is a proud moment for the Norfolk LD Service. Her dedication to improving care for patients with learning disabilities is truly inspiring. Anca's work exemplifies the high standards and compassionate care that our service strives to deliver every day."

Anca's award is a powerful reminder of the vital role that LD nurses play in the healthcare system and the profound impact they have on the lives of vulnerable individuals. Her journey as a Queen's Nurse is just beginning.

Media FAQs

How do I request to take photographs or film footage of/at your premises or of your staff/services?

Please get in touch with the NCH&C communications team for permission to film or take photographs of our premises, staff and/or services before it takes place. If we can support the request, we will.

We’ve put together some guidelines which we ask the media to follow when taking photographs or filming at our trust:

  • To help us with your request, please give us as much notice as possible.
  • In order to protect our patients and staff, photography and filming is not allowed in some areas of the trust. Proper consent must be obtained before filming or photographing patients and/or staff.
  • We don’t usually approve requests to film or photograph general shots of our premises and/or our staff or ‘pieces to camera’ that don’t directly relate to the work of NCH&C.
  • We ask all media professionals on site to be accompanied by a member of our staff at all times.
  • Please follow infection control procedures including using hand gel on entering and leaving clinical areas.

Anyone who is found filming or taking photographs at the hospital without permission will be asked to leave immediately, and footage and photographs may be confiscated.
